The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team is comprised of tenured Deputies from either the Patrol or Criminal Investigation Divisions who receive specialized training to execute search/ arrest warrants issued by the courts. Deputies may apply for the opportunity to join the team after successfully completing the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s 18 week basic school, and fulfilling the first 3 years of full-time law enforcement. Once selected Deputies maintain a high level of physical fitness and firearms proficiency, as well as completion of SWAT I and II training. This training is conducted through the IACP and is instructed by both current and former members of LAPD SWAT (a detailed description of these courses may be obtained through the IACP website.) SRT Deputies are on-call 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and are routinely called to assist other agencies with the execution of their warrants. The Special Response Team is most often used in conjunction with Detectives working in undercover narcotics investigations.
