Law Enforcement Explorer Program:

Since 1987, the Sheriff's Office has sponsored an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America in which young boys and girls receive hands-on experience in a vocation of their choice. Youngsters from Kennebec County between the ages of 14 and 20 who have expressed an interest in law enforcement or corrections can join the Kennebec Explorer Post 600 and participate in learning about these subjects prior to graduation from high school and/or college. The program allows an opportunity for students to be active in various department functions during the entire year. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Law Enforcement Explorer Post should contact:
Jeremy York at (207) 623-3614 x260.

TRIAD Programs:Spectrum Generations

A Triad is a three-way commitment among the chiefs of police in a county, the sheriff and older or retired leaders. They agree towork together toreduce the criminal victimization of the elderly and enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to older persons.

The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office currently has two TRIAD Programs in Kennebec County:

  • The Northern TRIAD meets the second Wednesday of every month from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Edmund S. Muskie Center (Senior Spectrum) on Gold Street, Waterville.

  • The Southern TRIAD meets the fourth Thursday of every month from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the William S. Cohen Community Center (Senior Spectrum) in Hallowell. For more information on TRIAD contact: Sheriff Everett Flannery at (207) 623-3614 x203.

    Community Policing:

The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office has established six substations in Kennebec County in an effort to keep deputies in their assigned areas without having to return to the Augusta headquarters as often. This will allow for a more efficient response to citizens requiring law enforcement services, and allows deputies to work with the public to develop solutions to chronic problems within their patrol areas utilizing collaborative probelm-solving techniques.

The first Enhanced Neighborhood Policing project in Kennebec County was established in the Town of Belgrade in 1998. This community-policing project has addressed issues of lighting, speeding, pedestrian safety and traffic control devices. This project is chaired by Belgrade resident James Minot and meets on the fourth Monday of the month at the Belgrade Town Office from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. For more information contact:
    Captain Jon Perkins at (207) 623-3614 x210.
